About Teachers Bethan Greaves - Director Bethan began her career as a young chorister singing at many of England's most prestigious cathedrals including Wells Cathedral, York Minster and Westminster Abbey. English Church music is her first and greatest love. Since her arrival in Hong Kong almost 12 years ago, Bethan has been an active member of the local singing scene. She has been a soloist with the Hong Kong Bach Choir, Hong Kong Voices, St. John's Chapel Choir and Die Konzertisten as well as singing with Soho Collective in corporate and private events that include the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, Elle Style Awards (Shanghai) and Frank Muller VIP Party (Singapore). Bethan's voice has been heard on film soundtracks and TV adverts and she has performed several roles on the HK amateur dramatics scene, including The Mad Woman in Lindsey McAlister's Sweeney Todd and Aladdin in the HK Players' annual panto last year. In 2009, Bethan was the first person in HK to achieve a DipABRSM in Conducting, she is currently working towards her LRSM which she hopes to complete late 2011.
Andrew Swift Andrew trained in Musical Theatre Performance at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Prior to this he spent three years training with the National Youth Music Theatre of Great Britain. As an actor he has appeared in numerous television commercials, West End and touring theatre productions, including the UK tour of Evita and the West End production of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap. He most recently appeared in Songs for a New World at The Fringe Club and Sleuth at McAulay Studio. He has worked as Musical Director on, Merrily We Roll Along, Just So, Curse of the Werewolf, Sugar, Shake, Ripple and Roll and Hair and was Assistant Musical Director on a production of Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, all in London. He has taught at a number of London drama schools including the Arts Educational School. Prior to moving to HK, Andrew spent two years working as a Vocal Coach and Musical Director at the British Record Industry Trust (BRIT) School for Performing Arts in London. Andrew is a vocal coach at Katterwall and HKAPA.
Chen Yong Chen Yong received his Master’s degree in vocal performance from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with full scholarship, under the tutelage of Professor Brian Montgomery. He also holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. After graduation he received the Vienna Opera Ball Scholarship which enabled him to complete his postgraduate studies at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under the tutelage of Professsor Franz Lakasovsky. Chen Yong has performed many leading tenor roles on stage including Rinuccio in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (2008), Don Jose in Bizet’s Carmen (2009) and Rudolfo in La Bohème. Recently he sang Tonio in Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment in Hong Kong.
Colette Lam Lam has sung operatic roles namely Marie in Donizetti's La fille du regiment, Amina in Bellini's La sonnambula, Pamina and Papagena in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Romilda in Handel's Serse, Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aneas and Berginella in Offenbach's La perichole with Brent Opera in London, UK, Beauforthaus Music Festival, Netherlands, Musica Viva, Opera Hong Kong. During the studies in the Preparatory Opera Porgramme in RAM, Lam appeared as Serpetta in Mozart's La finta Giadiniera, Angelique in Ibert's Angelique, Ekimona in Giacomo Meyerber's L'etoile du nord, and performed Lucia's and Elvira's madscene in a lecture recital. Also, she was awarded Highly Commended in the Isabel Jay Operatic Prize at the academy. On the concert platform, the major credit are, in England, Mahler's 2nd Symphony, Elijah, Shostakovich's Blok's 7 Poems, Commonwealth Young Ensemble in Westminster Abbey, and in Asia, Schumann’s Dichterliebe in Taipei, various contemporary music world premiere in HK, Chinese music ensemble in Berlin, Frankurt, Vienna, Belgium and London, recitals in Hong Kong, Mainland China, England, Italy and Singapore. Lam started singing lesson with Prof. Fu Kwai Wa. She then continued professionally in the HKAPA with Katusha Tsui-Fraser, Peter Lally and Lily Yeung. Lam was the recipient of The Michael Rippon Memorial Scholarship and Jacky Chan Scholarship during the study. She then obtained her Master of Music in Performance and Dissertation at the Royal Academy of Music, London under the tutelage of Joy Mammen, Robert Aldwinckle on a full scholarship from Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. Ginny Moore Ginny is a Singer and Actor who recently moved to Hong Kong from New York, where she performed throughout Manhattan and was most recently seen singing at Don't Tell Mama Cabaret and acting in the original work Who Am I (Bond Street Theatre). Regionally in the U.S. she was a singer/dancer on Spirit Cruise Lines and performed numerous roles including the Wicked Witch in Wizard of Oz and Clara in the original musical A Nutcracker Christmas. Commercials she's appeared in include T-Mobile and Martin's Grocery; television includes Storm of the Century (History Channel) and As the World Turns; film includes Derailed and recording the soundtrack for Genevieve and Loic, a movie-musical. Ginny studied with many Musical Theatre geniuses at the University of Michigan and has learned different styles of singing over the past 15+ years from renowned private voice instructors and coaches including Richard Lissemore, Rachel Cohen Mckenna, and Gillian Kelly, among others. Ginny is thrilled to be joining the team of singing teachers at Katterwall, where she is specializing in musical theatre. She is having a blast getting to know Hong Kong and is looking forward to what lies ahead!
Yen Yen Ng After obtaining her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance in Univercité de Montréal in Canada in 2005, Yen Yen has been very active in opera scene in Hong Kong. Performances include Minerve in Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach with City Opera, Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart and Don Carlo by Verdi with Opera Hong Kong. She was one of the soloists in Verdi’s Requiem concert with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Last year she toured with Opera Hong Kong to sing in the National Theatre in Beijing staging Die Zauberflöte by Mozart. Meanwhile, she won a scholarship last year from The Hong Kong Jockey Club to continue her vocal studies in the Voice Training Programme under Ms. Lola Young. She is the French diction coach for Opera Hong Kong Chorus and continues to spread the love of singing by teaching at Katterwall.
Terri Oliver Terri is a Singer/Songwriter, Band Leader and Actor. She has been working professionally for more than 12 years. As an actor she has appeared in commercials, plays and a couple of movies including “Anchor Baby” which is still playing in movie theatres internationally. As a singer, she spent a few years singing in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. After returning home, Terri was offered a recording deal and became a member of X-quisite. Terri co- wrote X-Quisite's top 10 hit "Sassy Thang". Sassy Thang was the #1 most requested song at many of Canada's biggest radio stations behind Avril Lavigne. During the same year the Pop/R&B group received a Juno nomination. Two of her songs “Sassy Thang” and “Colors” were chosen for “Degrassi's” fourth season episode, called “Modern Love”. Since the beginning of her company AllofherSoul, Terri has had little time to lend to other projects. AllofherSoul has been busy with lots of live performances and private parties. Terri also shared her time and talents to create public service announcements, recordings and live performances for Children's Charities. Between shows Terri was getting busy in the studio recording her first independent album entitled “Exponentially”. Terri has been teaching privately for 5 years and is very much looking forward to being a part of the musical team at Katterwall. Terri offers lessons in Speech Level Singing, Performance and Artist Development.
Naomi Symeou Naomi has been teaching at Katterwall for 1 year - taking on more students and Singing’Skool in September of this year. She trained at Arts Educational Schools, London and performed in various shows in and around London, including a tour of Sleeping Beauty. Before moving to Hong Kong, Naomi cruised the world for 10 months as principal vocalist on board Cunard's Queen Victoria. A highlight of Naomi's time here in Hong Kong was performing in Katterwall's Songs For a New World at The Fringe. Most recently she directed Romeo and Harriet at Tseun Wan Town Hall for Wah Yan College Kowloon and can be seen playing the Evil Stepmother in Chunky Onion's production of Cinderella, which tours schools in Hong Kong. Naomi regularly performs for corporate clients such as Montblanc, Hermes, Sevva, Hongkong Land and Deutsche Bank and earlier this year she recorded the theme song for Ocean Park. |
